3.6.13 March17 NY KNICKS To benefit backyard sports cares

Who wouldn’t want to be – or at least feel like – Carmelo Anthony for a day, on the very same court where he practices his best shots and moves?

OK, so maybe that’s a little bit of our own “March Madness,” but Advocate Brokerage and Pure Insurance are helping to make that “Carmelo feeling” possible for local basketball fans and enthusiasts on March 17 at the New York Knicks’ MSG Training Center in Greenburgh, N.Y., with the inaugural Adult Three-on-Three Basketball Tournament.

Advocate Brokerage is partnering with Backyard Sports Cares (www.byardsportscares.org), a Westchester-based non-profit that provides team-oriented sports programs for underserved and special needs children, as well as the Knicks, to sponsor the tournament, which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Teams will be divided into three divisions:

1.- Open (most competitive),
2.- 35 Years and Older,
3.- and Recreation (all ages).

Beloved Knicks alumni players and the Knicks City Dancers will be on hand to cheer on the participants.

“We are excited to join Backyard Sports Cares and the New York Knicks organization in giving basketball fans the opportunity to play like the pros at the Knicks’ state-of-the-art facility, and at the same time to raise funds for to give children in the area access to sports programs,” said Ronald Binday, vice president and owner of Advocate Brokerage. “Players will have a full Madison Square Garden experience on the court and off.”

The Tournament will raise critical funds for Backyard Sports Cares expanding presence in Westchester and lower Connecticut. Backyard Cares Sports’ programs  have touched more than 4,000 children in the area’s neediest communities including Mt. Vernon, Port Chester, Yonkers, and neighborhoods in New Rochelle and White Plains, as well as giving more than 100 special needs children a unique and rewarding opportunity to play sports.
