By: Advocate Brokerage

We at Advocate Brokerage are here to simplify your lives when it comes to insurance matters. Often, our clients do not know what information to get at the scene of an accident. We understand that accidents are stressful and hope that the following information will help alleviate some of the stress should you find yourself in the unfortunate situation of being involved in an auto accident.

Do NOT discuss the accident with anyone except the police or your insurance carrier representative.

Call 911 to report injuries and notify the police.
Move to a safe place, away from traffic.

Write down names, addresses, phone numbers of any witnesses, people and vehicles involved. Record the other driver’s insurance company and policy number.

Get instructions from police on how to obtain the police report.

Do NOT sign a statement for anyone except the police or your insurance carrier representative, unless advised to do so by your attorney.

Do NOT authorize repairs unless your insurance carrier adjuster has seen your vehicle or a claim representative has agreed to the repairs.

Contact your insurance company and contact us, your friendly insurance agent, as soon as possible with the information above. You do not need to call us from the scene of the accident. However, it is crucial that you report the accident in a timely manner.
