YOUR INSURER: ALLY OR ADVERSARY?

Life, as we all know, is full of risk — natural disasters, accidents, fires, disease, injuries, theft — the list goes on. Small wonder, then, that #insurance to protect against the slings and arrows of unpredictable misfortune — what insurers formally call “contingent, uncertain loss” – is, indeed, a very ancient business tradition.

Historic records reveal that insurance has been with us from almost time immemorial. Primitive methods of transferring or distributing risk were practiced by Chinese and Babylonian traders as long ago as the 3rd and 2nd millennia B.C. The Greeks and Romans introduced a form of insurance in 600 B.C. Separate insurance contracts were invented in Genoa, Italy, in the 14th century. And insurance policies, closer to what we know today, first appeared in London in the early 17th century.

Yet, despite insurance’s long and indispensable role in society, the popular perception of insurers is often negative — images abound of long delays for claims payments, of haggling with adjusters determined to make payments as small as possible, even challenges from insurers about the validity of claims.

All of which is why theAdvocate Brokerage was founded over four decades ago to provide home, auto, commercial and related insurance in an emphatically customer-friendly manner. From the get-go, we viewed our customers as allies not adversaries. We decided that customer good will and loyalty — rather than suspicion, mistrust, and disagreement — were our most valuable assets — certainly, more important than squeezing out a few extra profit dollars in settling claims. Speedy, equitable #claims resolution without argument became our unfailing watchword and we have never looked back.
